Mentoring plays a critical role in the progression of women professionals in all sectors. According to the 2016 Deloitte Millennial Survey, 63% of millennials say their leadership skills are not being fully developed. It also found that those intending to stay with their organisation for more than five years are twice as likely to have a mentor (68%), than not (32%).

This suggests that working with a Mentor can make a significant difference to find fulfilment and purpose in the professional advancement of a Mentee. Having a role model and a trusted advisor is not only inspiring, but can build confidence and lead to seeing new ways of achieving goals. Mentoring offers women the professional role models they need to ignite their professional success.

In October 2011, PWI Brussels launched its Mentoring Programme with success. Since then it provides its Mentoring Programme to its members, as well as to its affiliated PWN Global City Networks.

Objective of the PWI Mentoring Programme

PWI provides an effective mentoring structure to ensure that you get the most out of your mentoring experience, upon a wide range of mentors, ensuring the best possible match for you, and following up on your progress through the mentoring cycle to ensure that the experience is a positive one.

Because diversity is a vital tool in our Mentoring Programme, our Mentors are international with some based in Belgium.
The Mentoring Programmes in PWI Brussels and other PWN chapters are cited in surveys as one of the top elements of satisfaction for members of the PWN Global network.

PWI brings together a group of experienced and driven women leaders. Our mission is to support those women leaders on their journey. We do not discriminate against age, background and culture.
Our mentor/mentee evaluation criteria is based on the capacity and range of their impact,
and where the individual is in her career to increase her growth.

Why join the Mentoring Programme?

Mentoring provides huge benefits to the “Mentee”, the person who is being mentored, by obtaining a fresh perspective on their career status, aspirations & goals from their Mentor.

As a Mentor, mentoring also provides a lot of advantages. Many Mentors have commented that their contribution as a Mentor also provided themselves with a new leadership role in women's advancement, a positive new way of looking at their own career path, as well as an incentive to reflect on where they themselves were going, how it aligns with their own aspirations & goals and the opportunity to broaden their minds through reverse mentoring.

At PWI Brussels Mentors receive monthly supervision to challenge constantly themselves, this to support their mentees to the next stage. It’s really a “win-win” exchange between Mentee & Mentor.

How does the programme work?

Mentees receive a total of 8 hours of intensive 1:1 mentoring sessions over a period of 6 months via phone/Skype/WhatsApp with one of our highly experienced and professional mentors.

The programme offers:

  • One initial discovery session to define goals, explore values and identify triggers, barriers, and purpose
  • Minimum 6 or maximum 8 mentoring sessions, making a total of 8h within the programme
  • Design with your mentor bi-weekly or monthly mentoring sessions to work towards goals and overcoming challenges
  • Monthly newsletter with mentoring tips and recommended readings
  • 3 monthly group calls with other fellows
  • 6 Monthly Meetups
  • Access to the private Facebook Group to deepen the learning with other Mentees
  • One hour completion session to reflect on learnings and plan for ongoing self-development

How do you register as a PWI Mentee?

Become a member of PWI Brussels to be eligible for the Mentoring Programme.
The Mentorship is offered at a dramatically reduced rate for PWI Brussels members, but not completely free. We ask members to contribute €180 as a fee for the programme.

Typically such a programme costs around €5,000. Through the incredible generosity of our mentors, who offer their services completely pro-bono, we are proud to be able to offer PWI mentees places at this rate. The Mentoring Fee goes to the PWI Brussels operational cost, so we, as a non profit organisation, can continue to support more women leaders in the near future.
